MASK is inspired by a creation made by an asylum seeker from Nigeria during Thraedable's workshops in Pachino, Sicily. Asked to draw and cut out figures surrounding a theme of his choice, the author decided to explore images from his home country, Nigeria: a bird; a fish that “everybody likes to eat”; and a wooden mask typical from Edo state, in southern Nigeria. There, people wear this mask, called “Fastek”, during a festival that takes place in December to celebrate their ancestors. 50% of gross profits from the sale of each MASK are shared with Borderline Sicilia, an organisation thta monitors the situation of migrants and refugees in Sicily and advocates for their human rights.
