Clare Edwards is an inventor, designer and a wheelchair user since a car accident in her teens. Her aim is to create inclusive and useful products for everyone whatever their age or ability. She was shortlisted for the Stelios Disabled Entrepreneur of the Year award, and her "trabasack" has won many trade and design awards.
"As a wheelchair user I'm often in situations where I need to balance things on my lap. I've backpacked and I grew up in Zambia. I've seen people being very resourceful: -
upcycling. This inspired me to be a mosaic artist, sculptor and designer. Cutting, sewing and making prototypes comes naturally to me. I made the first Trabasack from curtains and a biscuit tin on a sewing machine! I wanted to make a travel bag that was easy to carry and use. I think products should be 'designed for all' so that they have a universal appeal."
