Introducing the #WEARABIGISSUE fashion brand. Art apparel that makes more than just a fashion statement.

In association with +rehabstudio and a collection of artists who have donated their talent, energy and creativity to the work of The Big Issue.

'Tits for Tats' has been created by artist Ceal Warnants who says:

"My tee is about the speed at which today's society forces children to grow up and drawing parallels between the youth of 'then' and 'now'. The angsts are the same but the pressures are different. Basing my work on vintage illustrations helps to lend it authenticity but also highlights the distinctions between two time frames and the different growing pains. In whatever era, Innocence is the truth of childhood and it is fascinating, its absence equally so."

"I enjoy the 'double take' that my work often provokes. People think it is sweet and nostalgic initially and that's what draws them in. The dichotomy of the humorous and the sinister is a device that makes hard subjects easier to talk about and represent. Hopefully they will then be intrigued by my subversion, react and pause to think. It would be great if people began to start a discussion with their own children about the pressures of the world. How do they differ from those of their generation and crucially how are they similar? Understanding each other a little more with no judgement would be a great result."

This is a Limited Edition artwork printed on an EarthPositive® T-shirt manufactured solely using sustainable energy generated from wind and solar power.

The Big Issue

The Big Issue's own-brand products support the creation of a range of work-based opportunities for disadvantaged people.
Big Issue has spent over 30 years at the helm of self-help revolution. It all began with the launch of The Big Issue magazine in 1991, which was created to offer homeless and disadvantaged people the opportunity to earn a legitimate income by selling a magazine on the streets. Since then over 200 million copies magazine have been sold by over 100,000 people. Vendors buy the magazine upfront for £1.75 and sell it on to the public for £4.00, and in doing so each runs their own micro-enterprise. In 2005 Big Issue Invest was launched, with the aim of extending The Big Issue's mission by financing the growth of social enterprises and charities across the UK. To date the organisation has directly invested in over 350 such organisations, and manages or advises on more than £170 million of social funds.
